Here is a list of most frequently asked questions about our Matterport Services
Q. How much does a Matterport 3D scan cost?
A. Our full price list is available right on our website.
Q. How is a Matterport Scan different than a slide show?
A. A Matterport scan creates a virtual model of a house which can be toured by the viewer in a similar way that a video game allows the player to move through a virtual world. A viewer can navigate through the house at their own direction using a mouse or their keyboard. You can see many of the Models we have created.
Q. How can I sign the Matterport Release?
A. We send you a link to the video release when we set up an appointment.
Q. How can I pay for my Matterport Scan if I won’t be at the appointment?
A. We send you a link in the confirmation email when we set up your appointment. You can pay securely online.
Q. How long does it take to scan a house?
A. For most houses it takes about 1 hour for every 1,500 square feet. Houses with smaller rooms and lots of furniture do take longer as more scans are required. Larger open houses with fewer rooms and less furniture take less time.
Q. Can you scan the outside of the house?
A. The camera is a very sensitive piece of equipment that uses infrared sensors to measure the rooms. The camera will not work in direct sunlight because the sun overwhelms the sensors. If the exterior of the house is shaded, we can take some scans of the exterior, but it is not always possible.
Q. Can you provide me with pictures?
A. Yes! We can provide you with captures from the scans for your use. The scans are not as high quality as those you might get from a professional photographer, but they are very suitable for most houses.
Q. What are MatterTags?
A. MatterTags are little markers we can place in the model that look similar to Google Map Pins. When a viewer sees these Tags, they can click on them to get more information on the item you want to emphasize. They are usually used to point out unique built in features such as surround sound, special counter tops, unique appliances, or even items that are for sale or those which are included with the house. There is no extra charge for adding MatterTags.
Q. What if I can’t figure out how to navigate?
A. We can put together a guided tour that starts as soon as the viewer clicks on the model. They can just sit back and watch a tour of the house. They can always grab control of the model and end the tour.
Q. How do I link to the model?
A. You will receive several links upon completion of your scan. The first link is branded with the agents logo, profile picture, and a contact form. This is a great way to generate leads. This link can be used on Facebook, Twitter, or in an email. The more you promote your model, the more people will view it. You will also receive an unbranded link. This is for use on the MLS. They require that virtual tours do not have any personalization or branding. Finally, you will also get an “embed” code so that you can embed the model on your website.
Q. What else do I get?
A. Unlike most providers, we create a wonderful landing page for your model. It is one page that includes the Matterport model, still images, your description of the property, and we can even link to any videos you have on Youtube or Vimeo such as drone video. We can even create tabbed content that can include information of local schools, HOA amenities, or any additional content you have. Please note that we do not provide the research for you, but we can include any content or links you have.
Q. How do I prepare for the scan?
A. The house should be “open house ready” when the photographer arrives. That means the house should be cleaned, dishes stored, beds made, and personal items moved if you do not want them included. Do not wait until the appointment time to start cleaning!
- Clean the house.
- The camera is high resolution and will reveal clutter and unclean areas.
- Put away personal items not to be photographed. They cannot be edited or blurred afterwards.
- Make sure all lights are functional and turned on for best results.
- Unlock doors to all rooms that will be photographed. Locked room will be excluded.
- Remove excessive items from rooms such as boxes, footstools, animal toys, baby gates, etc.
- Pets should not be in the house during photography.
- Put away cords, chargers, toothbrushes, counter top appliances, papers, bills, toys.
- Remove items from refrigerator door such as magnets or papers.
- Any valuable items that you do not want displayed publicly such as expensive art, weapons, or pictures
Q. How long does it take after the appointment for me to get my model?
A. In most cases you will receive the completed model, landing page and links in 24 – 48 hours.
Q. Do you scan the garage?
A. In most cases the garage is cluttered and does not add to the scan. If the garage is finished and a good selling point, we can include it in the scan at no additional cost.
Q. Can you scan a detached guest house?
A. Yes we can scan detached structures. However they may not be connected in one contiguous model. Mot often the guest house is scanned as a separate model and included on the landing page. Viewers will have to view the guest house separately from the main house.
Q. I have a commercial business, can you scan that?
A. A Matterport scan is a great way to show off your business! If you have a restaurant, retail store, school gym or even a nice office, a Matterport scan can increase interest. There may be additional hosting charges for models that are hosted for more than a year. Call for details.
